About Godmanchester

Godmanchester has Roman origins as a garrison town — the Romans established a settlement here called Durovigutum at the crossing of Ermine Street over the Great Ouse. The town was later a prosperous medieval market centre, and its historic wealth is reflected in the quality of its Georgian and earlier architecture. The Chinese Bridge — an ornate wooden footbridge over the mill stream — is one of Godmanchester’s most photographed landmarks. The town is administratively part of Huntingdonshire District Council, and its residents benefit from close proximity to Huntingdon railway station with fast services to London King’s Cross.
