Pressure Washing Pricing Guide UK: How Much Does It Cost?

In the UK, pressure washing typically costs around £8.50–£15.50 per square metre for a driveway, and across the 49 pressure washing jobs we completed between March 2023 and September 2026 the typical price was £130, with the middle half of customers paying £120–£155. The final price depends mainly on the size of the area, the surface and how much moss, algae or staining there is. Pressure washing pricing guide: how much does it cost?

There isn’t one national price list, because every outdoor area is different. Our own records give a useful guide: across 49 domestic jobs, the typical price was £130 and most fell between £120 and £155. Larger driveways, heavily stained natural stone or jobs combining several areas cost more; a small patio in reasonable condition sits at the lower end.

How much does pressure washing cost per m²?

Many pressure washing companies price by area. Checkatrade’s driveway cleaning cost guide, updated in May 2026, puts driveway cleaning at around £8.50–£15.50 per m², with sealing adding roughly £5–£17 per m² on top. The rate per m² usually falls as the area gets bigger, because setting up the equipment takes the same time whether the job is large or small. That is also why very small areas are often subject to a minimum charge.

How much does driveway pressure washing cost?

Checkatrade’s May 2026 guide gives typical driveway cleaning prices of about £250 for a small driveway, £350 for a medium one and £400 for a large one, and around £700 to power wash and seal a medium driveway. Patio cleaning ranges from about £195 to £450 in the same guide. Our own typical job, at £130, is lower than those averages. Prices vary widely with the size of the area and whether sealing or re-sanding is included, so always compare quotes for the same scope of work. Block paving that needs re-sanding, or oil-stained concrete, sits at the higher end.

Power washing, jet washing and pressure washing: is there a price difference?

In the UK, the three terms are used for the same service: cleaning outdoor surfaces with a high-pressure jet of water. “Jet washing” is the most common everyday term, “pressure washing” is what most companies call it, and “power washing” is more common in the US, where it sometimes means using heated water. Prices from UK companies do not differ because of the name. What can change the price is the method: hot-water cleaning, or a soft-wash chemical treatment for delicate surfaces, usually costs more than a standard cold-water clean.

What do pressure washing companies charge, and what should a quote include?

Companies price in one of three ways: per m², a fixed price for the job, or a day rate. Whichever method is used, check the quote covers:

• Every area you want cleaned, with rough sizes
• Moss, algae and weed removal from joints
• Re-sanding block paving, if needed, and whether it is included
• Any sealing or post-clean algae treatment, priced separately
• Clearing debris and rinsing down surrounding areas
• Public liability insurance

How should each surface be cleaned?

Surface	What to know
Block paving	Cleans well, but jointing sand washes out. Re-sanding afterwards keeps the blocks stable and slows weed growth.
Concrete slabs and driveways	Tolerate higher pressure. Oil stains usually fade rather than disappear completely.
Natural stone (sandstone, limestone)	Soft and porous. Needs lower pressure and a wider nozzle to avoid etching and pitting.
Porcelain	Hard-wearing and non-porous; usually cleans up quickly.
Timber decking	Low pressure along the grain, or the surface can splinter and fur up.
Composite decking	Check the manufacturer’s guidance first, as some brands limit pressure or recommend a soft brush.

Can you pressure wash during a hosepipe ban?

This matters in 2026. Several water companies introduced temporary hosepipe bans this summer, and Thames Water’s ban was still in force across its supply area in mid-September 2026. Thames Water’s ban stops households using a hosepipe or pressure washer to clean patios, paths, driveways and other outdoor surfaces.

Bans usually include exemptions. Thames Water’s legal notice, for example, allows cleaning of paths, patios and other outdoor artificial surfaces “where this is done as a service to customers in the course of a business”, and for health or safety reasons. Wording varies between companies, so if you live in an area with a ban, check your own water company’s notice before cleaning yourself or booking. Bans are lifted when water levels recover, so the position may have changed by the time you read this.

Why pressure wash?

• Safety: algae and moss make paving and decking slippery, especially in autumn and winter.

DIY or professional?

Hiring or buying a pressure washer is possible, and fine for small, hard-wearing areas. The risks are real, though: too much pressure can damage soft stone, blow out joints and splinter timber, and poor technique leaves stripes. Pressure washers can also cause injury if the jet is pointed at skin, so wear eye protection and sturdy footwear, and keep children and pets away.

Be careful with run-off, too. Many outdoor drains carry rainwater straight to local streams, so avoid letting detergents, oil or chemical treatments wash into them, and follow the label on any patio cleaner you use.

What can’t pressure washing fix?

• Deep oil stains in porous concrete or stone usually fade but may not vanish completely.
• Rust and tannin marks from furniture or leaves may need a specialist treatment.
• Cracked or sunken paving is a repair job; cleaning often makes existing damage easier to see.
• Worn-out sealant on block paving or decking won’t come back; the surface may need resealing once dry.
• Regrowth of moss and algae in shady, damp spots is natural over time.

How do you get an accurate quote?

1. Take photos of each area, including close-ups of any heavy staining.
2. Give rough measurements (length × width) or an estimate in square metres.
3. Tell us the surface type, such as block paving, slabs, natural stone or decking.
4. Mention access: is there side access, or does equipment go through the house?
5. Confirm there’s an outdoor tap, and whether a hosepipe ban applies in your area.

When is the best time of year?

July and April are our busiest months for pressure washing, as people get gardens ready for summer. Autumn is also a good time, clearing slippery algae before winter. Avoid freezing weather, because water left in joints and on surfaces can freeze.
