What do people book a professional cleaner for, apart from moving out? We looked at all 14,042 jobs we completed across the UK between January 2023 and October 2026. Nearly a third of them (4,463 jobs, 31.8%) were not move-out cleans: they were deep cleans, after builders cleans, carpet and upholstery cleans, oven cleans, pre-tenancy cleans and pressure washing. Here’s what those jobs included, what they cost, where they were booked and at what time of year.
Key takeaways
- Deep cleaning is our second biggest service: 3,505 jobs, a quarter of everything we did, in 827 towns.
- In the last 12 months the typical deep clean cost £299: about £228 for a one-bed home, £282 for a two-bed and £362 for a three-bed.
- Deep cleans make up a bigger share of bookings in the North East (34.2%), West Midlands (32.5%) and Wales (37.6%) than in London (22.0%) or the South West (19.4%).
- Half of all deep cleans (49.8%) happen between March and July. Oven-only cleans do the opposite: 54.4% are booked between November and February.
- Across all our jobs we’ve deep-cleaned 20,701 carpeted rooms, 2,743 ovens, 1,194 sofas and 13,561 exterior windows.
What people book besides move-out cleans
End of tenancy cleaning is still our main job (9,579 of 14,042 jobs). The rest breaks down like this. The typical price is the median final price across all jobs of that type, extras included.
| Service | Jobs | Share of all jobs | Typical final price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deep cleaning | 3,505 | 25.0% | £271 |
| After builders cleaning | 457 | 3.3% | £290 |
| Carpet and rug cleaning (booked on its own) | 228 | 1.6% | £150 |
| Oven and appliance cleaning (booked on its own) | 123 | 0.9% | £120 |
| Pre-tenancy and move-in cleaning | 82 | 0.6% | £244 |
| Pressure washing | 54 | 0.4% | £128 |
The standalone carpet and oven figures understate how much of that work we do. Most carpet and oven cleaning is added to a bigger clean: 7,195 of our jobs included carpet or upholstery cleaning and 3,091 included an oven or appliance clean as an extra. We also handle hoarder cleans, which are quoted individually.
Deep cleaning: what’s included and what it costs
A deep clean uses the same fixed price list as a move-out clean, set by the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. The difference is usually the situation: deep cleans are booked for lived-in homes, before a sale, between tenants or simply for a thorough reset. Across 3,503 deep cleans with a full list of what was cleaned, this is how often each area or extra appeared, next to our move-out cleans for comparison:
| Area or extra | Deep cleans | Move-out cleans |
|---|---|---|
| Bathrooms and toilets (descaled) | 92.5% | 94.6% |
| Kitchen deep clean | 90.8% | 93.9% |
| All interior windows | 87.8% | 91.9% |
| Living areas and hallways | 85.6% | 91.4% |
| Professional carpet cleaning | 46.9% | 49.2% |
| Radiators | 44.2% | 56.9% |
| Furniture dusted and wiped | 21.4% | 12.8% |
| Exterior windows | 20.8% | 16.3% |
| Oven (listed separately) | 16.4% | 21.5% |
| Sofa cleaning | 11.0% | 5.4% |
| Mattress cleaning | 6.1% | 3.2% |
The pattern makes sense once you think about who’s in the home. A deep clean usually happens with furniture still in place, so it is twice as likely to include sofa and mattress cleaning and far more likely to include dusting furniture. If you’re getting the house ready, see what to empty before a deep clean.
Two-bedroom homes are the most common deep clean (38.8% of jobs), followed by three-bed (26.2%) and one-bed homes (18.4%). These were the typical final prices over the last 12 months:
| Home size | Deep cleans (last 12 months) | Typical final price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 bedroom | 91 | £228 |
| 2 bedrooms | 204 | £282 |
| 3 bedrooms | 130 | £362 |
| 4 bedrooms | 56 | £495 |
| All deep cleans | 595 | £299 |
Carpet cleaning is the extra that moves the price most. Across all our deep cleans, the typical job with carpet cleaning cost £310, against £237 without. Fixed prices start at £135 for a studio and £175 for a one-bed, one-bath home; extras are added per item. See the full price list.
Where deep cleans are booked most
Our prices are the same across the UK, but the reasons people book differ. Deep cleans make up a much bigger part of our work in the North, the Midlands, Scotland and Wales than in London and the South:
| Region | Deep cleans | Deep cleans as a share of all our jobs there |
|---|---|---|
| Wales | 82 | 37.6% |
| North East | 107 | 34.2% |
| West Midlands | 278 | 32.5% |
| Yorkshire and the Humber | 218 | 32.2% |
| North West | 250 | 31.9% |
| Scotland | 284 | 30.7% |
| East Midlands | 222 | 27.7% |
| East of England | 411 | 23.9% |
| London | 713 | 22.0% |
| South East | 682 | 21.1% |
| South West | 228 | 19.4% |
In London and the South East, move-out cleans make up most of our bookings. In the rest of the UK, roughly one job in three is a deep clean, so if you live outside the South there’s a good chance a local team has done many deep cleans near you.
By town, our busiest deep cleaning areas have been Edinburgh (72 deep cleans), Bristol (66), Glasgow (64), Cambridge (61), Birmingham (60), Manchester (51) and Leeds (47). In total we’ve done deep cleans in 827 towns and London boroughs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
When people book each service
Each service has its own season. This table shows how bookings spread across the year, using the three full years 2023 to 2025 so that every month is counted equally:
| Month | Deep cleaning | Carpet cleaning (on its own) | Oven cleaning (on its own) |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 5.3% | 5.0% | 12.3% |
| February | 5.8% | 5.0% | 15.8% |
| March | 10.1% | 8.0% | 7.9% |
| April | 9.3% | 9.0% | 9.6% |
| May | 9.0% | 7.5% | 6.1% |
| June | 10.1% | 6.5% | 7.0% |
| July | 11.3% | 8.5% | 3.5% |
| August | 9.0% | 8.0% | 2.6% |
| September | 8.7% | 10.6% | 2.6% |
| October | 6.7% | 12.6% | 6.1% |
| November | 7.7% | 10.6% | 14.0% |
| December | 7.0% | 8.5% | 12.3% |
Three patterns stand out:
- Deep cleans follow the spring and summer. March to July accounts for 49.8% of deep cleans, with July the busiest month. January and February are the quietest, so they’re the easiest months to get the date you want.
- Carpet cleaning picks up in autumn. September to November accounts for 33.8% of standalone carpet cleans, as people get carpets done before the heating goes on and before guests arrive for Christmas. Carpets dry faster in warmer months, so late summer is a good time to book.
- Oven cleaning is a winter job. 54.4% of standalone oven cleans are booked between November and February, around Christmas cooking. Our step-by-step oven cleaning guide covers what to do yourself in between.
After builders cleaning
We’ve completed 457 after builders cleans. The typical final price was £290, and £283 over the last 12 months. London accounts for 39% of them (against 20% of our deep cleans), with Coventry (17 jobs) our busiest single town.
What gets cleaned is different from a deep clean. Building dust settles on every surface and comes through to the outside, so after builders cleans more often include exterior windows (31.9% against 20.8% of deep cleans) and furniture dusting (23.2%). They are half as likely to include carpet cleaning (23.9% against 46.9%), because many renovations end with new flooring. Interior windows (93.9%), living areas (93.4%), bathrooms (93.0%) and kitchens (89.9%) are included in almost every one.
One practical tip from these jobs: book the clean for after the last trade has finished, including the decorator. Fine dust keeps settling for a day or two after sanding and plastering, so a clean booked on the same day as the final works often needs a second pass.
Carpets, upholstery and ovens in numbers
Counting every job, whether the extra was booked on its own or added to another clean, here is what we’ve cleaned since January 2023, using the quantities recorded on each job:
| Item | Total cleaned | Jobs |
|---|---|---|
| Carpeted rooms | 20,701 | 6,738 |
| Exterior windows | 13,561 | 2,462 |
| Ovens (1,839 single, 857 double, 47 AGA) | 2,743 | 2,700 |
| Pairs of curtains | 1,497 | 522 |
| Sofas | 1,194 | 979 |
| Mattresses | 835 | 557 |
| Fridges and freezers | 924 | 676 |
| Flights of carpeted stairs | 566 | 449 |
Nearly half of all our jobs (48.0%) include carpet cleaning, and the typical job with carpets covers three rooms. On our price list that’s £90 (£30 a room), plus £15 for a hallway and £25 for each flight of stairs. Sofas start at £55 for a two-seater, mattresses are £25 and curtains £35 a pair. A single oven is £35, a double oven £45 and a range cooker £60. Read whether professional carpet cleaning is worth it, or see our kitchen appliance checklist.
When carpet or oven cleaning is booked on its own, the typical bill over the last 12 months was £155 for carpets and £162 for ovens and appliances. That’s higher than a single item because most people book several rooms or appliances at once, and a minimum charge may apply to small jobs.
What this means if you’re booking a clean
- Budget by home size, then add extras. Two-bed deep cleans typically cost around £280; carpets are the extra most likely to raise the price.
- Book deep cleans early in spring and summer. March to July is our busiest time for deep cleans, so allow more notice for the date you want.
- Group your extras. Adding carpets, an oven or a sofa to a deep clean is cheaper than booking each one separately, as the team is already there.
- After building work, wait for the dust to settle. Book the clean once all trades have finished.
- Check how often you need one. Most homes don’t need a full deep clean every month. Our guide to how often to deep clean your house has a simple schedule.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a deep clean cost in the UK?
From our last 12 months of jobs, the typical deep clean cost £299, with half of customers paying between £230 and £390. A one-bed home typically cost £228, a two-bed £282 and a three-bed £362. Our fixed prices start at £135 for a studio.
What’s the difference between a deep clean and an end of tenancy clean?
Both use the same checklist and price list. A move-out clean is done in an empty property to an inventory standard, while a deep clean is usually done in a lived-in home, so it more often includes sofas, mattresses and dusting furniture. In our data, deep cleans were twice as likely to include sofa cleaning (11.0% against 5.4%).
When is the best time to book a deep clean?
January and February are our quietest months for deep cleans (around 5–6% of the year’s bookings each), so dates are easiest to get then. March to July is the busiest period, with half of all deep cleans.
Can I book carpet or oven cleaning on its own?
Yes. Carpets are £30 a room and a single oven is £35. Over the last 12 months, standalone carpet cleans typically cost £155 and oven and appliance cleans £162, because most customers book several items together. A minimum charge may apply to small jobs.
Where does this data come from?
From our own job records: all 14,042 jobs we completed between January 2023 and 13 October 2026, including the line items and quantities recorded on each job. Typical price is the median final price, extras included. Last-12-month figures cover 14 October 2025 to 13 October 2026.
